Extensive drydocking including structural steel renewals in ballast tanks, sea valve and rudder overhauls, propulsion equipment maintenance, main engine auxiliary repairs and piping works, demonstrating Navalrocha’s capability in delivering complex multi-discipline repair projects.
Drydocking at Navalrocha
A comprehensive propulsion and structural repair programme
The ETRUSCO entered Navalrocha for an extensive drydocking programme involving a broad range of structural, mechanical and piping repairs, together with propulsion system maintenance and underwater equipment overhauls. The project required the close coordination of multiple specialist disciplines, demonstrating the shipyard’s capability to manage complex repair programmes within a single docking period.
A major part of the project focused on structural steel repairs within several water ballast tanks, where deteriorated plating was cropped, renewed and welded with new Grade A steel inserts. Extensive non-destructive testing, including vacuum, ultrasonic and dye penetrant inspections, verified the integrity of all completed welds before the repaired areas were returned to service.
The propulsion and steering systems also received significant attention. Rudder clearances were measured and inspected, steering gear overhaul assistance was provided, propeller blades were dismantled for seal renewal and inspection, while tailshaft wear measurements were carried out as part of the vessel’s classification requirements. Additional underwater works included sea chest maintenance, renewal of sacrificial anodes and anchor and chain servicing.
Extensive mechanical works were undertaken throughout the engine room, including the overhaul of numerous sea valves, storm valves, butterfly valves and associated piping systems. Maintenance was also performed on main engine auxiliary equipment, lubricating oil coolers, electric motors and other essential machinery to ensure the continued reliability of the vessel’s onboard systems.
Throughout the repair period, Navalrocha successfully integrated structural steel renewal, mechanical overhauls, pipework repairs and underwater maintenance within a single docking programme. All activities were performed under strict quality assurance procedures and comprehensive health, safety and fire prevention protocols, ensuring the highest standards of workmanship while meeting the vessel’s operational and classification requirements.
